Villa Visit

So this was a pretty busy weekend, even though I should have spent the entire weekend studying. We had prior engagements that had to be fulfilled, so studying was inserted where possible. Friday night we had a Brazilian dinner at Tropicalia in Los Feliz with our friends Markus and Milena.

Saturday, we were up early to make it to Malibu by noon for our reservations to the Getty Villa. The villa is part of the J. Paul Getty Trust and is basically a museum of his antiquities from Italy and Greece. It was structured after the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum, and has been closed for renovation since 1997. Machada-Silvetti are the architects that were commissioned to do the renovation and addition, which is basically what drew Stu and myself to the Villa in the first place. Since the building just opened this past year, it is quite difficult to get reservations in a timely manner, therefore we've had these reservations for over a month, well before I re-scheduled my exam for this week. All in all, it was a beautiful afternoon, and well worth the trip to Malibu. We started with lunch in their Mediterranean Cafe, and spent another 3-1/2 hours touring the grounds. After a lovely day at the villa, we made our way home. We went to Chinatown for dinner (where they were having a reunion of Americans who had adopted Chinese babies, quite strange). We then got ready for an evening out with our friend Reed's brother Christian and his new fiance Gillian, who were in town from New York for an Oscar Party. They were classmates of Stu and Perry during their days at Lawrenceville. We ended up at Trader Vic's at the Beverly Hilton. It was great to finally meet Christian!

Sunday was finally spent studying at the library, and then as mentioned in my previous post, I nestled in to watch the Oscars, and then continued with the studying afterwards. Tonight will be more of the same! Countdown to my exam: 38.5 hours! Yikes.
